Certeo is a contractor business & law exam prep app. This policy explains, in plain language, exactly what we collect, what stays on your device, and what we never do.
The short version
- No account or login is required to use Certeo.
- Your quiz history, answers, and readiness score are stored locally on your device — we do not have a server that stores your study data.
- We use PostHog product analytics and full session replay to understand how the app is used and fix bugs. Replay can include quiz answers, exam dates, study plans, and other text displayed on screen.
- If you explicitly join the website waitlist, we store your email only to send the launch updates you asked for.
- We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
1. Who we are
Certeo is operated by Openverse. If you have questions about this policy, email us at [email protected]. We respond within 30 days.
2. What we collect
No account information
Certeo does not have accounts, sign-in, or a server-side user profile. There is nothing to register and nothing tied to your name or email address inside the app itself.
Quiz history and readiness score (stored locally only)
Every question you answer, your topic-by-topic readiness score, study plan, streak, and reminder settings are stored locally on your device. Certeo uses SwiftData on iPhone and iPad and Room/DataStore on Android. Android app backup and device transfer are disabled for Certeo's database and settings. Certeo itself does not transmit your answers, exam date, or study plan to a server.
Product usage analytics
We use PostHog for product analytics events and full session replay. Replays are unmasked and can include text and images rendered in the app, including quiz answers, exam dates, readiness results, and study-plan content. Network request and response contents are not recorded; warning and error logs may be included. PostHog also receives app version, platform, environment, a pseudonymous app-generated identifier, and an approximate country inferred from the network connection. We use this data only to understand feature usage and fix problems, not for advertising or cross-app tracking.
Purchase information
The Full Access unlock ($24.99 one-time) is processed by Apple through the App Store or by Google through Google Play, depending on your device. We use RevenueCat to verify your purchase and manage entitlement status using an anonymous subscriber identifier. Neither RevenueCat nor Certeo can access your credit card or billing details; those remain with Apple or Google.
Optional website waitlist
If you explicitly join the website waitlist, we store your email address, signup source, and a limited technical record (referrer and browser user agent) in our Cloudflare database. We use it only to send the launch updates you requested, prevent duplicate signups, and understand which pages drive interest. Each launch email has a one-click unsubscribe link. It is separate from the app and is never required to use the app.
What we do NOT collect
- Your name or contact information in the app itself
- Your location or GPS data
- Your contacts, camera roll, or microphone
- Advertising identifiers (we do not run ads)
- Any health data
3. How we use data
We use the limited data described above only to:
- Provide the service: deliver quiz content and track your entitlement to Full Access.
- Improve the app: understand aggregate feature usage and fix bugs, via anonymous PostHog analytics.
- Send requested launch updates: only when you explicitly join the website waitlist.
We never use analytics data for advertising or marketing profiling, and we never sell your data.
4. Who we share data with
We rely on a small number of trusted service providers:
- PostHog — pseudonymous product analytics and unmasked full session replay.
- RevenueCat — purchase/entitlement management using an anonymous subscriber identifier.
- Apple — App Store distribution and payment processing on Apple devices.
- Google — Google Play distribution and payment processing on Android devices.
- Resend — delivery of the website launch emails you explicitly request.
We do not sell, rent, or license your data to anyone, and we do not share it with data brokers or advertisers.
5. Data retention & deletion
Your quiz history and readiness score live only on your device. You can reset all local progress at any time from Settings → Reset All Progress in the app, or simply delete the app to remove all locally stored data. Because there is no account or server-side profile, deleting the app removes your quiz data completely. Waitlist email records are retained until launch or until you ask us to remove them. For deletion or privacy requests, email [email protected].
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Because Certeo stores your study data locally and does not maintain accounts, most of these rights are already in your control directly in the app (Settings → Reset All Progress). For anything else, email [email protected]. If you are in the EU/UK, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
7. Children's privacy
Certeo is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
8. Security
Data kept on your device is protected by your device's hardware encryption and passcode/biometric lock. We will notify you of any breach that affects your personal data as required by law.
9. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of Certeo after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
